How Does an Insertion Machine Work? Components and Principles Explained

An insertion machine is automation equipment that precisely inserts electronic components into PCBs, replacing manual work to raise efficiency and quality. Here is how it works:

1. Feeding system. Stores and supplies components — tape reels, trays, feeder racks and vibration feeders move components to the pick position through vibration or mechanical drive.

2. Picking system. The insertion head with nozzles or grippers takes each component from the feeder, controlled for exact position and timing.

3. Positioning system. Servo-driven X-Y tables position the PCB so each hole aligns perfectly with the insertion head — this is where the precision comes from.
